CAGE code
Also called: CAGE, Commercial and Government Entity code, CAGE number
A CAGE code is a five-character identifier assigned by the Defense Logistics Agency to a physical location of an entity registered in SAM.gov, used across federal systems for contracts, payments and parts.
CAGE codes are governed by FAR 4.18 and issued by DLA's CAGE program during SAM registration; US entities do not apply separately. Foreign entities get an NCAGE code first. The code attaches to an address, so a company with two performing locations may hold two CAGE codes, and a move or name change requires an update.
What to check: that the CAGE code appears in your SAM record after activation (it can lag the UEI by a few days), that it matches on DIBBS quotes, WAWF invoices and DD Form 250s, and that your SAM registration is still active, because an expired registration leaves the CAGE in place but you ineligible.
What it is not: a certification, a security clearance or a contract. It is also not the same as the UEI, although both come from the same registration.
