govcon.forum is a question-and-answer community for people who sell to US government buyers and for the buyers themselves. It is run by RFPFinder and is not affiliated with any government agency. Reading is free; asking and answering needs an account with a confirmed email.

Who answers here. Members answer from their own bid history. Two badges tell you who you are reading: Gov buyer marks a member who signed up with a verified .gov or .mil address and speaks only for themselves, never for their agency, and never about an open source selection. Verified vendor marks a member with a SAM Unique Entity ID on file. Moderators and RFPFinder staff are labelled as such. Everyone else is a member, and that is fine: the first question from a new bidder is often the most useful thread on the site.

What you can post. Questions in the eleven categories, from finding bids to debriefs and protests. RFP discussions: every notice on RFPFinder has a "Discuss this RFP" link that opens a thread tied to that solicitation, with its due date on the page. Teaming requests on the teaming board, where primes look for subs and subs look for primes by NAICS, state and set-aside. Guides, written by the moderators, for the questions that come up every week.

How answers are ranked. The accepted answer shows first and is summarised at the top of the thread, then answers by votes. The person who asked, or a moderator, accepts an answer.

House rules in one breath. Answer first, explain second. Cite the FAR part, the SBA rule, the state code or the portal page. No selling in answers and no recommending a consultant, a software product or a company. No invented numbers. Nothing confidential from a debrief or a live source selection. Be specific when you ask: agency level, trade or NAICS, set-aside, deadline, what you tried.

Where to start. Read the glossary when a term is new. Search before you ask, the question has often been answered. If it has not, ask it the way you would ask a colleague, with the detail that lets someone answer the first time.

Questions about the forum itself go in this category. Welcome.

One thing this post leaves out, that people often ask me about, is how to handle the inevitable follow-up questions from other forum members if you ask a good question and get a lot of engagement. The forum works best when you answer those follow-up questions yourself, right in the thread, instead of taking them offline. This keeps all the information together and makes the thread useful for others who might have the same questions later. I have seen threads get really rich and deep when the original poster keeps the conversation going by clarifying details or asking for more specific advice based on the initial answers. It also helps the community see that you are engaged and serious about finding solutions.
