My SAM.gov registration is active and shows a UEI, but the CAGE code field is blank. I am trying to register for DIBBS to bid on an RFQ for NAICS 332919, Other Metal Valve and Pipe Fitting Manufacturing, and the DIBBS registration page will not accept my form without a CAGE code. I thought the CAGE code was part of the SAM registration process. Is this something I need to apply for separately, or does it come from somewhere else? How long does it usually take for a CAGE code to show up after SAM.gov registration is active?
What is a CAGE code, how do I get one, and why has mine not shown up yet?
Ask a question- The CAGE code will typically be assigned automatically after your SAM.gov registration is active, but you can also check the status or request one directly from the DLA.
- While Dave is correct that DLA assigns the CAGE code, it is generally part of the SAM.gov registration process for entities indicating interest in federal contracts.
- If it has been more

The CAGE code will typically be assigned automatically after your SAM.gov registration is active, but you can also check the status or request one directly from the DLA. While Dave is correct that DLA assigns the CAGE code, it is generally part of the SAM.gov registration process for entities indicating interest in federal contracts. If it has been more than a week since your SAM.gov registration became active and the CAGE code field is still blank, contact the Federal Service Desk for assistance. DIBBS requires a CAGE code because it is a DLA portal, and DLA uses the CAGE code as a primary identifier for vendors. You cannot move forward with DIBBS registration until that code is assigned.
A CAGE code is a five-character code assigned by the Defense Logistics Agency that uniquely identifies a business location, and it is a separate registration process from SAM.gov.
Your CAGE code will not show up in SAM.gov until DLA has assigned it. The fifth position of a CAGE code is always numeric, and the letters I and O are not used. You cannot register for DIBBS without a CAGE code because DIBBS is a DLA portal. The CAGE code is created by DLA when a business registers in SAM.gov and indicates it wants to do business with the Department of Defense. It can take several business days for DLA to process the request after SAM.gov registration is active. DLA will notify you directly when your CAGE code is assigned.
