What's the process for getting a CAGE code for a new entity in October 2026?

My startup just got our Unique Entity ID (UEI) from SAM.gov last week. We are working through the full SAM entity registration now, mainly for federal grounds maintenance contracts, NAICS code 561730. I'm trying to figure out how to get a CAGE code. The SAM.gov site mentions it will be assigned during registration, but I haven't seen a clear step for it yet. Is it something that happens automatically after certain sections are complete, or is there a specific form or process I need to initiate within SAM.gov for the CAGE code? I want to make sure I don't miss a step and delay our registration.

The CAGE code is assigned automatically during your SAM entity registration process; there is no separate form or action you need to take. When you complete and submit your initial SAM registration, the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) will process the information you've provided and assign your firm a CAGE code. This typically happens in the background as part of the validation steps after you submit your full registration, so you won't see a distinct "CAGE code application" button or section. You will receive notification of your CAGE code once it has been assigned, and it will then appear in your SAM.gov entity record. Make sure all your business information, especially your address and business type, is accurate and consistent throughout your SAM registration to avoid any delays in the CAGE code assignment.
