This thread explains what can and cannot be posted about a live bid in an RFP thread. Our forum allows discussions about publicly available information related to a live solicitation, but we strictly prohibit sharing source selection information or proprietary data. This policy ensures fairness and compliance with procurement regulations.

Allowed Content
Forum members may post questions about the requirement, notes on amendments and Q&A responses, and teaming requests. You can also share information obtained through public records requests. For example, a Verified Vendor may ask for clarification on a specific NAICS code or discuss the impact of a recent amendment on the technical volume.

Prohibited Content
We will remove any posts containing source selection information, such as competitor pricing derived from a debrief, or documents marked for official use only. Posts from buyers discussing an open evaluation or providing an unfair advantage to any offeror are also prohibited. Sharing specific details of your company's bid or proprietary information about another company's bid is not allowed. This includes any information that could compromise the integrity of the procurement process or violate the FAR or agency-specific regulations.

Why These Rules?
These rules are in place to maintain a fair and ethical environment for all participants. The government procurement process is highly regulated, and unauthorized disclosure of information can lead to severe penalties, including bid protests and contract cancellations. Our goal is to facilitate helpful discussions without enabling actions that could harm the procurement process or individual businesses. As Moderators, we are here to ensure these guidelines are followed.

Please feel free to ask any questions about these rules in this thread.

One thing people often miss is how the rules change for state and local government bids compared to federal ones. The rules about what you can and cannot discuss in public forums like this, and what information is publicly available, depend entirely on the specific state procurement code or local government's vendor guidelines, not the FAR.

I do a lot of county court work, and what's public there can be very different from what the VA or DoJ considers public. For example, some states publish a bid tabulation with all offeror prices right after bid opening, while others keep that under wraps until after award, and even then you might need to file a public records request to get it. Always check the specific state procurement portal or county purchasing department website for their rules on public information and protests. Don't assume federal rules apply to every government contract.

This is a great point, Luis. State and local procurement rules can vary widely. I've found that some states even have different rules for different types of contracts, so always check the specific [state procurement portal](https://govcon.forum/glossary/state-procurement-portal/) for each opportunity. · Keisha W. ·
