How do the RFP discussion threads work, and how do I find the one for my solicitation?

Each RFP discussion thread on govcon.forum is created for a specific, live solicitation listed on RFPFinder. These threads serve as a central place for vendors to ask questions, discuss amendments, and find teaming partners for that particular bid.

Finding a thread: You can find a thread by searching for the solicitation number on govcon.forum. If a thread does not exist for a solicitation you found on RFPFinder, a new one will be automatically created when you try to post a question about it.

Thread content: All discussions within these threads must pertain directly to the linked solicitation. Moderators will remove off-topic posts or advertising. We encourage users to cite relevant FAR parts, SBA rules, or portal pages to support their answers.

Thread status: A solicitation thread remains active until the bid due date has passed. After the due date, the thread will be locked to further discussion, but it will remain visible for reference. We do not delete threads after the bid closes.

User roles: Forum members may have badges indicating their status. A Gov buyer badge means the user has a verified government or military email. A Verified vendor badge indicates a SAM UEI on file. Moderator and RFPFinder staff badges identify our team members. Threads can also be for general questions, teaming requests, or guides.

Ranking answers: Answers are ranked by community upvotes. Accurate, well-sourced information tends to receive the most upvotes. We do not allow answers that provide legal advice or personal anecdotes.

Feel free to ask any further questions about how these threads operate.

The biggest thing people get wrong about these threads is not understanding the distinction between a Request for Information (RFI) and a live solicitation. An RFI is just market research, and the government does not intend to award a contract from it. You will see those threads pop up, but you can't bid on them directly.

For a live solicitation, like an RFP or an RFQ, always check the amendment section on SAM.gov or the relevant state procurement portal. The contracting officer will often post official answers to questions there, sometimes consolidating questions from various sources. Your question here might be answered there already, or it might get answered there officially after you post it here. Always refer to the official amendment first. This forum is good for discussion and getting different perspectives, but the official documents are what matter for your proposal.

That's right, Luis. A contracting officer will usually combine all submitted questions and answer them in a single amendment, so you need to keep an eye on the official solicitation page. · Helen M. ·
