Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out how to search SAM.gov for open bids for grounds maintenance, but I keep getting buried in award notices and justifications. I'm looking for federal work, mostly. I've tried putting "grounds maintenance" in the keyword box and filtering by NAICS code 561730 (Landscaping Services), but the results are still mostly old awards. I'm trying to find actual solicitations, like an RFQ or an IFB, that are still open and have a due date. Is there a specific filter combination on SAM.gov that actually works to show only open bids, or am I missing a step in how I'm setting up my search?
How do I search SAM.gov for open bids only, instead of pages of award notices?
Ask a question- To find open solicitations on SAM.gov, you need to use the "Status" filter and select "Active" or "Combined Synopsis/Solicitation." Jordan, the issue you're having with seeing too many award notices is common if you don't narrow down the status.
- You're on the right track by using keywords and NAICS codes, but the key is the status filter.

To find open solicitations on SAM.gov, you need to use the "Status" filter and select "Active" or "Combined Synopsis/Solicitation." Jordan, the issue you're having with seeing too many award notices is common if you don't narrow down the status. You're on the right track by using keywords and NAICS codes, but the key is the status filter.
After you enter your keywords like "grounds maintenance" and your NAICS code 561730, go to the "Status" filter on the left-hand side of the search results page. From the options, select "Active." This will filter out all the past award notices and show you only current, open opportunities. You might also want to look for "Combined Synopsis/Solicitation" under the "Type" filter, as many opportunities are posted this way.
Remember that proposed contract actions expected to exceed $25,000 must be synopsized in the Governmentwide point of entry, SAM.gov (FAR 5.101(a)(1)). For opportunities at the state or local level, you would need to search their respective state procurement portals, like Team Georgia Marketplace or Virginia's eVA eProcurement Marketplace.
