How do state procurement portals handle vendor registration and bid notifications?

My janitorial firm, NAICS 561720, has mostly done federal work and some county and school district contracts. We're looking to expand into state government work in Ohio. I've been told that states run their own vendor registration portals separate from SAM.gov, like Team Georgia Marketplace or Virginia's eVA. I poked around the Ohio state procurement portal and found a few bid tabs for cleaning services, but I'm confused about how to actually register our business as a vendor and set up bid notifications.

Do most state procurement portals have a single vendor registration process, or do you have to register for each agency? How do you reliably get alerts for relevant Invitation for Bid (IFB) or Request for Quotation (RFQ) notices once you are registered?

State procurement portals generally have a single vendor registration process for the state, but you should always check the specific state's portal guide. Each state runs its own vendor registration portals separate from SAM.gov, for example, Team Georgia Marketplace, Virginia's eVA eProcurement Marketplace, and the Texas Centralized Master Bidders List. You register your business once for the state, then you can often select specific commodity codes or keywords to receive bid notifications. This is different from federal contracting, where proposed contract actions expected to exceed $25,000 must be synopsized in SAM.gov (FAR 5.101(a)(1)). For state and local work, the notifications come from the state's own system. Make sure your company profile is complete and your contact information is current. This ensures you get alerts for relevant Invitations for Bid or Requests for Quotation directly to your inbox.
