Hi everyone,

My firm's HUBZone certification is up for renewal in November 2026, and I want to make sure I'm on top of all the requirements. We do staffing and training, primarily under NAICS 561320. I've been reviewing the SBA website and 13 CFR 126.200, but I'm finding some of the language around employee residency and principal office location a little unclear, especially with any recent updates.

Specifically, I'm looking at the rule that at least 35 percent of our employees must qualify as HUBZone resident employees. Our principal office is definitely in a HUBZone, but keeping that 35 percent can be a moving target with hiring. Has anyone gone through a HUBZone renewal recently, and what did you focus on for the employee residency requirement? Are there any new forms or documentation for the principal office location?

For HUBZone certification renewal in late 2026, your firm must still meet the requirement that at least 35 percent of its employees qualify as HUBZone resident employees, and its principal office must be located in a HUBZone. These are established criteria under 13 CFR 126.200(d)(1) and 13 CFR 126.200(c). The SBA's regulations for the HUBZone program have not changed these specific requirements recently.

To manage the employee residency requirement, firms often maintain rigorous record-keeping of employee addresses and monitor the percentage regularly, especially when hiring or experiencing employee turnover. The SBA portal for HUBZone firms will guide you through the specific documentation needed for renewal, which typically includes updated employee records and verification of the principal office location. The process focuses on continuous compliance with the program's foundational rules.
