I am looking at federal opportunities for landscaping and grounds maintenance, NAICS 561730. I see some notices on SAM.gov refer to a "Federal Supply Schedule" and others to a "GSA Multiple Award Schedule" or "GSA MAS." A contracting officer at the local VA medical center told me last week that if I want to do work for them, I should get on the VA schedule. Are the Federal Supply Schedule and the GSA MAS the same thing? Is the VA schedule something different, awarded by the VA? Can my company hold both a GSA MAS contract and a VA schedule contract at the same time?
Is a Federal Supply Schedule the same thing as a GSA schedule, and why does the VA have its own?

A Federal Supply Schedule is the same thing as a GSA Multiple Award Schedule (MAS) contract. The VA schedule is a separate contract vehicle managed by the Department of Veterans Affairs, not GSA.
The GSA MAS program is a government-wide program for commercial products and services. The VA has its own schedule program, often called the VA FSS, specifically for medical and surgical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and some services tailored to VA's healthcare mission. Your company can hold both a GSA MAS contract and a VA schedule contract at the same time. These are distinct contracts with different terms and conditions, and you would need to go through separate application processes for each.
