Award notice

Also called: notice of award, award synopsis, notice of intent to award, contract award notice

An award notice is the public announcement that a contract has been awarded, naming the awardee and the amount; on SAM.gov it is posted as an award notice tied to the original solicitation number.

FAR 5.301 requires agencies to synopsize most awards above the threshold in that section on SAM.gov, and FAR 15.503 requires notice to unsuccessful offerors, which starts the debrief request clock. State and local buyers post a notice of intent to award before the contract is signed, which opens a protest window under the state code, and then the award itself. The award data also flows to FPDS and USAspending.

What to check: the awardee's name and UEI, the amount, the contract number for your tracking, the period of performance and options (so you know when the recompete comes), and the date, because your debrief and protest deadlines run from the notice. Set a saved search on SAM.gov for award notices in your NAICS; they are the cheapest competitive intelligence there is.

What it is not: proof the contract is signed. An intent to award can be withdrawn after a protest or a responsibility finding.
