What is a 'statewide term contract' and how can my business get on one?

I'm looking into state government opportunities for my small business, NAICS 541611, Administrative Management and General Management Consulting Services. I keep seeing references to 'statewide term contracts' in the bid documents on the state procurement portal. I'm new to state contracting, so I'm not sure what these are. I saw one mention of a "statewide term contract for IT consulting" in an old award notice but can't find the original solicitation that created it. What exactly is a statewide term contract, and how can my business get on one?

A statewide term contract is an agreement established by a state's central procurement office for specific goods or services that multiple state agencies, and sometimes local governments, can purchase from. These contracts streamline the procurement process by pre-qualifying vendors and setting prices or rates for a defined period, similar to a federal Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract. Each state's procurement code and the specific policies of its central purchasing division govern the creation and use of these contracts. You get on one by responding to the original solicitation when the state agency issues it. Keep checking your state's state procurement portal regularly for new opportunities, and make sure your vendor registration is active. Many states also offer email notifications for new solicitations in your NAICS code or keywords, which can help you catch new contract postings.
