Besides SAM.gov, where else do government contracts get posted that I should be checking every week?

I've been running a saved search on SAM.gov for landscaping services under NAICS 561730 and I also have an account on my local city's procurement portal. We're a nine-person crew, and I'm trying to find more federal, state, and local grounds maintenance contracts. I keep hearing about jobs from other landscapers that I never saw, like a school district mowing contract for three campuses and a base grounds contract on a nearby military installation. Neither of those ever showed up in my SAM.gov alerts or on the city portal.

Am I missing some other places where these contracts get posted? What other websites or portals should a small landscaping company be checking every week to find bid opportunities?

You are missing other websites and portals where government contracts are posted, beyond SAM.gov and your city's procurement portal. For federal opportunities, agencies shall use simplified acquisition procedures to the maximum extent practicable for all purchases of supplies or services not exceeding the simplified acquisition threshold of $350,000 (FAR 13.003(a)). Most of these will be posted on SAM.gov. However, contracts below the micro-purchase threshold of $15,000 for services (FAR 2.101) do not require public synopsis and might be awarded without a formal posting. You need to check the websites for individual military bases or federal agencies for these smaller opportunities, as they often have local contracting offices. For state and local opportunities, each state runs its own vendor registration portals separate from SAM.gov, like Virginia's eVA eProcurement Marketplace. County purchasing departments and school districts also maintain their own procurement portals or direct outreach methods. You will need to identify the relevant state, county, and school district entities in your service area and register directly with each of them.

Thanks for clarifying about the micro-purchase threshold. I’ll check the websites for the military bases around Jacksonville for those smaller landscaping opportunities. · Jordan P. ·

Jordan, you need to call the individual school districts and military installations directly and ask them where they post their bids. My shop does a lot of work for county and school districts, and I can tell you that many of them don't use the state portals for all their buys. They often have their own websites or even just email lists for smaller, routine services like landscaping. For federal work, some military bases will post their smaller jobs, those under the simplified acquisition threshold, directly on their base website instead of SAM.gov. You need to get on their vendor lists.

Jordan, another place to look for federal contracts, especially those below the simplified acquisition threshold, is directly with federal agencies. Agencies must report every contract action over the micro-purchase threshold to the Federal Procurement Data System (FAR 4.606(a)(1)). While SAM.gov is the governmentwide point of entry for proposed contract actions exceeding $25,000 (FAR 5.101(a)(1)), many agencies also maintain internal bulletin boards or smaller procurement pages for local buys. For state and local work, you often need to register on individual school district or county purchasing department websites, as these entities frequently operate their own procurement systems separate from state portals.
